Details: This is a wonderful Mizpah ring on a simple gold band with raised lettering.Mizpah jewelry, which from the mid-to late-1800s was given to a loved one during a period of long separation—military service, travel, or otherwise—as a "forget-me-not." The word Mizpah is taken from the Old Testament " The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent from one another" and means "watchtower" in Hebrew. Mitzpah can be found emblazoned on an abundance of silver jewelry from that time period but the gold pieces are much harder to find.
Measurements: The ring size is 7.25-7.5. The band is 5mm wide.
Origins: Birmingham, c. 1878.
